Maximizing Your Video Investment

Posted on: March 22nd, 2011 by Naomi Binkley

One of the most important elements of successful video production is developing a well-rounded strategy for getting your video in front of viewers.  You want to make sure your video is working for you.  Fireside Production is always looking for ways to help our Clients maximize their production investments.  Over the years, we’ve discovered some unique and effective ways that our Clients are sharing their video messages.

–        YouTube YouTube is a great site for hosting your video.  Be sure to use the edit option to create a compelling title, a description (including a link to your website) and appropriate tags for the piece.  Tags are descriptions that allow viewers to find your video when searching a general topic.  So, for Fireside Production, we would tag video production, non-profit videos, videography, editing… you get the idea.

YouTube also has wonderful sharing options right there on your video page.  Take advantage of them.  Use the URL to post the piece on your social networking sites like LinkedIn and Facebook.  You can Stumble Upon, Tweet or Buzz a piece right from your YouTube site.  Of course, you also want to encourage those you know to Like your video, Share it and Comment on it.  Those actions *do* make a difference.

You’ll find an embed code there on YouTube.  That allows you to embed the piece directly onto your website with YouTube as the host.  Don’t worry… the viewer doesn’t necessarily have to navigate away from your website to view the piece.  Your web experts can help ensure that your viewers watch your video without leaving your site.  That’s the way we showcase our videos in the Fireside Production Portfolio.  Embedding your video and linking to it help increase visibility.

Finally, you can pay to promote your video on several sites like YouTube.  The campaigns are generally customizable to allow you to direct your video to your targeted viewers.

–        Email Options – Email is an effective way to generate daily promotion of your video.  Use the URL in your email signature.  Every time I send an email, I automatically encourage someone to view our Demo video or right now, watch and vote for our People’s Telly Awards Entry.  Here’s how we do it:
