Day of Service – History Colorado
Transcribing Women’s Suffrage
As the world is grappling with the coronavirus pandemic and the strains of social distancing, we wanted to do something different with our spring 2020 Fireside Day of Service. And so, we invited clients, friends and family to turn our focus to the past. Together, we served our nonprofit client, History Colorado by digitally transcribing documents from suffragists who fought to remove the barriers of gender discrimination at the polls.
“Being the mother of two girls, a fifth-generation Colorado native and a business owner, this project speaks to my heart. It’s a powerful reminder that it’s our duty to those who fought so hard for the right to vote – to make our voices heard by participating in our elections.”
Naomi Binkley, Fireside Founder & Managing Partner
The mission of History Colorado is to foster cultural understanding, preserve and protect the physical, cultural and emotional places that are important to our communities and encourage appreciation of what makes Colorado – Colorado.
“I love Denver and Colorado. To be able to go back in time and experience our history has been fascinating and enjoyable.”
Tom McDonald, Fireside Director of Production & Partner
By transcribing documents and letters from the late 1800s and early 1900s, this project gives people of all ages a way to touch our past and learn about the struggle for women to earn the right to vote.
“This experience reminded me that we too, are collectively writing a new future. In this time of COVID-19, we’re evolving and working together to solve problems in truly historic ways.”
Kristin Massoletti, Fireside Partnerships & Growth Strategist
“These voices felt a breath away while transcribing. I was totally surprised by how gratifying it was to amplify stories of the past and see how the conversation of women moving in the world has evolved over time.”
Emily Strand, Fireside Production Manager
Let’s remember those who took up a cause they felt deeply about. Let’s explore stories of setbacks and successes and most of all, let’s vote! We hope you’ll join this virtual volunteer effort with History Colorado and be a part of Fireside’s commitment to make an impact in our community.
