Video Communications During Coronavirus

Posted on: March 20th, 2020 by Naomi Binkley

You are not alone. Navigating the challenge of communicating during the coronavirus crisis is one every organization is facing, and video can – and should be – a central piece of your messaging strategy.

Many of our nonprofits are postponing or cancelling their most important fundraising events.  Those are the very organizations that we count on during times like these for resources and support. Small businesses and large organizations alike are temporarily closing, some are dramatically changing the ways they operate. With all of the uncertainty, communication brings us together – and sometimes, it comforts us.

Video is an important way of informing and lifting up your teams, your supporters and your community.

In this video, Fireside’s Naomi Binkley recommends ways we can use video right now – even as we’re engaged in social distancing – to make sure your messaging connects with those you need to reach.

Video & Communications Recommendations from Naomi

A few additional thoughts and resources for those of you needing to shift your events from in-person to online… first, use video to announce the change.  Consider it a video invite.

Zoom – This is a great article with best practices for hosting a digital event.  Zoom is also offering creative backgrounds for your virtual get-togethers, which is a lovely way to add a touch of levity in times like this.

Bespoke Event Group – Bespoke is an experiential marketing agency that provides measurable impact with purpose and intention. They can expertly guide you to bring clarity, intention and best practices through your video-led and virtual trainings, meetings, fundraisers, product launches and events.

Vimeo – Vimeo offers live streaming for your events on social media, your website and anywhere else your audience may be. When your event is over, it’s archived on the platform.

Social Media Live – Options like Facebook Live are a simple way to deliver your messaging directly to your social followers and engage or answer questions via the comments. Facebook Live becomes a shareable video once the live is over.

GiveSmart – We’ve heard great things about the GiveSmart platform and the experience it provides for you to engage donors – including online auctions, mobile bidding and text-to-give.

Auction & Event Solutions – Several of our clients and partners recommend AES to take your auction experience – online. AES offers both computer and mobile bidding options.

Oh, and want to really sell your signature auction items? Let Fireside create a video to showcase those auction packages to help bring in top dollars when the bidding gets underway.
